This week was quite the busy one! They don't
mess around here in the CCM! Right after I emailed last week, I had to
stop by the infirmary because I needed to get another tetanus shot. I
know, a tetanus shot in Mexico sounded pretty risky, but apparently mine wasn't recent enough so I had to get another. Elder Gates said that they
were probably going to just give me tetanus on accident so that didn't
really help to calm my nerves. Luckily everything went alright though.
Elder Gates also said that he had heard that after a tetanus shot, if
you work out your arms and stuff it helps them to not get as sore, so we
went straight back to our casa and I immediately began doing some push
ups. I think it has been a little too long, cause let me tell you, those
push up were a struggle... but anyway, I don't really think that it
helped the soreness. It lingered for about a day or two, but I'm back in
business now.
Getting my Tetanus shot...not the greatest experience in the world!
Every day we are given an hour of gym time, and I
have spent almost every day of it playing volleyball. I absolutely love
it, and even better, I'm totally getting better! Maybe I'm receiving
help in more ways than just learning the gospel and learning Spanish.
Anyway, it is super nice to get that little time every day to let out a
little stress.
For our service this week, we kind of got lost from
the rest of the group and didn't really know where to go, so we were kind
of just walking around for a little bit, but then we found a worker who
asked if we were supposed to be doing service right now, and he took us
to the Banderia (laundry facilities) and we were able to help there. We
weren't with out other people in our district, but it was super fun
because the two workers there really only spoke Spanish, so we had a
good time using everything we knew to communicate with them. Even
better, I learned a very efficient way to fold an elastic sheet!! I'll
have to teach you when I get back (If I still remember)!
We have had great lessons and everything with our
investigators, and we have learned a lot of things that we need to work
on too. Having a companionship of three often makes it pretty difficult
to teach with a lot of unity, because we all have something we want to
say, but we are all working on that! haha but we had our first TRC
teaching this week and I had a really cool experience! One of the people
we taught was totally a true and faithful member of the church, and he
actually pretty much taught us! He had us read DyC 84:85 and he
testified about how the spirit will help us so much on our missions and
we need to be listening to the spirit and we will receive guidance. In
that exact moment and for the next 15 minutes that he was talking to
us, I felt the spirit so strongly and I was able to understand a good
95% of what he was saying to us(it was all in spanish). It was so cool
to have him tell us this and then experience for myself in the same
moment the help of the spirit in understanding pretty much all of the
Spanish he was teaching. Although the experience was somewhat backwards,
I was really appreciative that we were being taught by the person we
were supposed to be teaching.
We had another huge rainstorm this week, and I think
it was bigger than the last one! But its possible that it only felt
that way because we had to run through it this time. We were in a
particular building and we had to go to class, a good 4-5 minute walk
away... luckily I had my umbrella, but Elder Campbell and Elder Gates
had left theirs in the classroom, so they got pretty drenched.
Sundays are actually like the best days in the CCM
because we finally have a day where we don't have to worry about
teaching any lessons and we can just have people teach us through
meetings and devotionals and videos! But being fast Sunday this week, it
was slightly different! Here at the CCM, they begin their fast after
lunch on Saturday afternoon, and it goes until lunch on Sunday
afternoon. It was a little different, but I think I actually liked it
better! haha we had a devotional from Elder Bednar, and boy is he
powerful! He spoke on the five points that we need to have in order to
be a preach my gospel missionary! 1)understand that we are a
representative of Jesus Christ; 2) Be worthy before the savior;
3)Treasure up the words of eternal life; 4) Understand that the Holy
Ghost is the true teacher; and 5) teaching is more important than
talking. Super good devotional! We also had a little talk about specific
prayers from President Tenorio, 1st counselor in the CCM presidency. It
seriously inspired me more than you even know! He told us several
stories, but I will only share one. He told us about a young missionary
who left his backpack in the back seat of a taxi on accident one
Saturday night. he was devastated because he had all of his pictures
from his entire mission in there and a lot of other personal things and
he didn't want them to get stolen. He said a specific prayer that night,
thanking Heavenly Father for everything he had, and then he told
Heavenly Father his problem, very specifically. He then proceeded to say
that after church on Sunday, they would wait outside the building for
exactly an hour and they would make fliers that said that he lost his
backpack, and that within the hour, the taxi would drive past and he
would have his backpack returned with everything. They waited for almost
an hour and the missionary was about to call it quits, but at 58
minutes, the taxi drove up and handed him his backpack, and the driver
said "I didn't steal any of your stuff, I'm Christian". Specific prayer
works, and I cant wait to have an experience for myself.
Also I got my package yesterday! Sooooo glad I have
my malaria pills;) haha but it was actually kind of fun to get a package
even though I knew what it was already. To answer your question about
if I can listen to music, sadly it is forbidden to listen to music here
at the CCM, so I haven't been able to yet. It is funny how much I miss
music! haha
Anyway, I need to wrap it up. I have been getting so
much more comfortable and confident with the language and I am so
appreciative for the help of the Spirit.
Through
teaching about the importance of the Book of Mormon and how it can help
people in their lives, I have come to appreciate it more in my own
life. I have no doubt that the Book of Mormon is indeed the work of God,
and it can serve as a guide for us in our lives, answering any kind of
questions we may have. Every chapter contains answers to all types of
questions and all we need to do is read it, pray about it, and apply it
to ourselves. Heavenly Father will give us answers to our prayers!
I love hearing from you!

My maestro, Hno. Silva made us these awesome necklaces to help us remember that we don't speak english anymore! haha oddly enough it is a Latino missionary magnet!
Our district all wearing our signs that say "solo hablo Espanol." This is a bad depiction because in reality, Hermana Olson and I are the only ones that actually wear them everywhere. Everyone else just puts them on for the pictures ;)
In the comedor, all of the Latinos feel the need to talk to me because I'm wearing this sign that says "solo hablo EspaƱol" haha
