Working it out with little workout!

Hola familia!

Esta semana ha sido muy buena, y aprendí bastante!! Y mi nuevo compañero y yo nos divertimos muchisimo!!

Ok so I have really enjoyed this week!! I think that I have worked harder this week than any week yet! Finishing up the weekend last week, we decided that since we are working in a trio, the best way to work most efficiently would be to find a priesthood holder that could dedicate the majority of the day to working with us, so that we could form two companionships and get double the amount of work done. So I worked with Elder Velazquez, and Elder Maradiaga offered to work with Angel Torres. From that moment, we put a goal that we would each find a new family so that at the end of the day we would have two new families to teach. And our reward would be that we were going to have a pizza party with Angel at 8pm in a pizza restaurant that he wanted me to try. So Elder Velazquez and I went to work, talking with the members and contacting a ton, and found a few people to teach, but none were families. We were working really hard, and it came to be 7:45pm and we only had 15 more minutes to go before we told Elder Maradiaga and Angel that we were going to meet for pizza. So I looked at Elder Velzquez and said that we were going to find a family before we went to pizza. We walked for about two minutes, and at the end of a little dead end road we contacted this couple that was outside!  We were able teach them for a bit, and arrived only like 15 minutes late to the pizza party! Prayer answered!!

Then while we were eating pizza, which was super good by the way, we talked about the day, and that part was just slightly disappointing. We were super excited telling them that we were successful in finding a new family, and then they proceeded to tell us about their day. They went to a birthday party of one of the members in the branch and "contacted" the people that were there. The majority were members...I was a little bothered, but I didn't let it get to me too much because I had this giant meaty pizza in front of me, and because I was able to work really hard that day and I felt really good about what we were able to do!!

Mariela came to church on Sunday, and she is totally ready to get baptized this Saturday! Or tomorrow I guess! Haha. Now we just need to find some baptismal clothes for her. But she was super chosen. She is always so spiritual and she wants so badly to be baptized. We never really invited her to be baptized, she just told us that she wanted to do it, so that was pretty awesome! And here she is taking that step toward eternal life! The same step that Jesus himself had to take to be worthy of eternal life. It is so huge the need for each and every person to be baptized with the proper authority, and we have that authority!! We NEED to help these people! We don't have a choice!

So really other than that things have been going great. As I mentioned before, with Elder Velazquez came a new desire to work out!! So on Monday morning, we woke up at 5:30 so that we could do a killer workout. And although it really wasn't much, it killed me! The worst part was the 60 squats that we did... don't laugh at me, but it left me in very little walking condition. But the worst part was on Tuesday when the application told us we had to do 70!!!! Tuesday was literally the best pain I have ever felt in my life! Although I "couldn't walk", I had to so that we could still preach that night. And I pushed through it. But here is the good news, We got up to 100 today, and I don't even feel it as much as I did on day one!!! Improvement!! haha And we are doing other exercises too, but the squats are the noteworthy ones for this week haha.

So overall it was a really great week, and I am super excited to keep working hard!! We are finding a ton more each week to teach, and even though it is difficult to have the time sometimes, we somehow make it work!

I know that these 8 months that I have been out on the mission have truly changed me already and are helping me become a much better person. I know that this Gospel is true, and I love to preach it. Sometimes the most discouraging part of the mission is that I don't have much time right now while I am in the office to do it. But when I do have the time, I take full advantage of it, because I know how much of a blessing it has been in my life. I know that my Savior has helped me through difficult times, and frustrating things, and I love Him so much for that.

I Love You a Bunch!!

Today is a New Day!!

Wow this week was pretty awesome!! And as usual, really crazy. I have already explained my role in the changes from the last two that I have been through, so I will not bore you with the random info and all that stuff.

But this last Monday, Elder Maradiaga and I received a new companion!! And he is going to be the new Records Secretary, so Elder Maradiaga will be teaching him how things work for the next two weeks now, and then It will be just us two! Elder Maradiaga will be going to serve in PUERTO CABEZAS as a Miskito Missionary!! Which means that he has to learn a new language: Miskito!! It is totally just a native language of here in the East coast of Nicaragua and Honduras. So my new companion is Elder Velazquez and he is from Costa Rica. He has about 3 months in the mission now, just like I was when I came into the office!! I guess President wants all the newbies in the office! He is 19 and he loves to dance. He even did this really awesome dance in the Christmas talent show that we had in the Hilton. Other than that, I don't know much more about him yet.

Some pics of the companionship! So presh.

On another note, that random phone call that you received has a really funny story. So we were in the airport on Tuesday morning dropping off some people that were finished with the mission, and as we were standing there waiting for them to check in, a man walks up to us and says "how are you Elders! I am Kevin Pearson, and I am a member of the 70!" So we talked with him for a bit, and asked why he was here in Nicaragua and stuff like that, and then another came up and said, "hello, I am José Teixeira" (I had to look up how to spell it) And they told us that they were there on a charity trip. Then came up the other man, Danny. He was big, had really long hair, and a huge beard. He said, "hello how are you? I know who you guys are! If you give me the phone number of your mom, I'll give her a call and tell her that you are looking all right, and that everything is going great for you!" So I decided, yolo, and gave him the number. So he called you and I was really happy to hear that he actually did it! haha But also, we randomly met two members of the Seventy on a charity trip with this random guy! So that was awesome.

Also,  President let us go to the Volcano Masaya again this week!! Because we didn't really get to enjoy it a ton when we went with all the others, we were busy being secretaries taking people back and forth in the car. But life went on, because we got to come back!!! It was so awesome, because this time there was not pressure, we got to go and just relax!!!

These are all pics from our visit for the second time to the Volcano :)

We took advantage and taught some of the missionary lessons to the volcano.

Also another pic from higher up of the volcano.

On the more spiritual note, I am back in a trio, and as I learned back in the MTC, teaching in a trio can be rather difficult. So before we got to some of our lessons, we did a little planning so that we would teach in unity, but in reality it was a disaster!! Until at one point in the lesson, we let the investigator, Jonathan, speak for a bit, and we started to teach him, not the lesson. We started to follow the Spirit, not what we wanted to teach. And things took a 180. Instead of telling us that his time investigating the church was already over, he told us that he would be able to come again in the next Sunday. And he started to really listen and take to heart what we were teaching. It was truly a testament that when the Spirit teaches through us, it is 1,000 times more effective than when we teach alone, maybe disregarding what the Spirit is telling us. I love the blessing I see in the work every day, and nothing is better than being able to see people progressing in the gospel to become better. Even if they don't make it to baptism in my time, they have take steps closer to be ready for the next missionaries!

Elder Velazquez is super excited to work really hard and I am so ready to be right there with him. I am going treat the area like a brand new area, but with the advantage that I already know the members pretty well, so I don't have to spend much time getting to know them, I can just jump right in with Elder Velazquez to get their help to baptize and establish the church in Ducualí! I love this Gospel with all my heart, and I don't know where I would be without it, but I do know that I would feel without a purpose in this life. Like the motivation was missing. Knowing the plan that our Heavenly Father has for us gives me the desire to be better each day and I want to help others have that desire too! I hope that all of you can start now to work to have that desire if you don't have it, and if you do, make it stronger!

Love You All!

More pics from the volcano...

This is what we call a hueco or a hole.  And I decided to take a picture of me in the hole... thats really about it...

This is the inactive volcano right next to the active volcano. We were going to teach it to try to activate it again, but we decided not to.

Climbing up to the best viewpoint!

This is a great view of the south mission! haha and the lake Nicaragua.

I survived the Charles Dental Group, at the Volcano Masaya!! ;) haha

Time flies when you are working hard and having fun!

Woah!! Seriously I feel like I was just here yesterday!!! This has been quite the week. I feel like that is getting old to hear. Anyway, I just was seeing how everyone is doing so well with their new years goals so far!!! It is evident that many have chosen to put a goal that they will write Elder Moser more in this new year, because my inbox has about doubled in new messages! Im rooting for you all to keep it up and stick with your goal!!! ;) haha
Also, another goal that is very apparent here in Nicaragua is that people want to come to church more, because the attendance in the meetings on Sunday shot up as soon as the new year started!!!

Anyway, on to the more important news of the week.... Our three best investigators, Victoria, Mariela, and Juan all came to church on Sunday, and they all loved it!! But unfortunately, we have been soooo busy this week we have hardly even gotten to go to our area to work!! That really stinks! But we have been able to pay a few visits to them.

Victoria is going to be out of town for about a week starting today. She is going to visit Jinotega to settle some things with the father of her child. She told us that she has been talking with him a little bit, and explained that she was investigating the Mormon church. He was really against it, but as she explained to us, he has no reason because he doesn't even have a clue what we believe. So we challenged her to teach him the gospel, to teach him the things that we had taught to her!! She thought it was a great idea, so we gave her a pamphlet of the restoration and she gladly accepted the opportunity to share the Gospel!!! What a blessing. She has even been talking to him about possibly getting married if they solve the problems in the relationship to avoid any chance of breaking the law of chastity! So she is really learning quickly!!

Mariela is doing great as well, and she is continuing with the strong desire to be baptized!! We just have a few more things to teach and a few more things to make sure she is good with, and she will make one great member in the branch!

As far as Juan goes, he is still suuuuper positive and wants to learn and share with his family as well, but his work schedule is soooo busy and he works like 2 hours from where he lives.... so he isn't in the house a ton. But we are going to keep looking for the opportunities to help him take the correct steps to apply the gospel in his life and to share it with his family as well!!

We are on a mad hunt for more people to teach, because we need to keep finding new people to share the Gospel with. Oh and also, we have changes next week, and these ones will be affecting me. Elder Maradiaga will be leaving the office in a few weeks from now, and I will have a new companion!!!! UH-OH!!

But also this week we had a pretty cool activity for P-day as a multi zone pday. We went and visited Volcano Masaya!!!!! And it was pretty fun, but I don't really know what else to say, so I will just send the pictures and that should say enough! haha

The real highlight of this last week brought me an immense joy that is really difficult to describe. But we were in my old area, La Rotonda because I got to do a baptismal interview for the missionaries there, and while we were there, I saw Alexis, the 18 year old boy that I baptized with Elder Alvarado! So we were talking for a bit, and he said that he is still super excited and can't wait to go on a mission! He is going to put in his papers so that he can leave around February, which means I will still be in the mission!! But it was so awesome to hear how much he is doing to prepare. He said that he is studying the Book of Mormon every day and he is reading from Preach my Gospel and just doing whatever he can to prepare!! He even cut his hair nice and short to be in line with the short hair rule already!! He is just so much happier than when we were teaching him and it seriously made me soooooo happy to see him like that. That is seriously the true joy of missionary work!! I could go home having only baptized him in the mission, and to see him like that I would have great joy! Just as it says in Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!
But I know that I still have much time left and that I am prepared to fulfill the next verse!   16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!
I love being a missionary and I love the joy that I find in the service of my Heavenly Father! I encourage all to find ways to do the same! Every member a missionary! :)

Love, Elder Moser

ROBBED! :O

Well you read it right, this week was a slightly sad one..... our house was broken into and we had a few things stolen. But don't worry, life around here is still moving!!

We got back to our house on Wednesday night, and everything seemed normal, but as we entered into our room, my suitcase was in the middle of the floor and some stuff strewn about........ sooooooo I decided to take a look, and saw that a couple things were missing! So I was like ohhhhh poop. So I started to look a little more determined and found a few things missing, but to be completely honest, they did not take much. Because I know it will be a question next week if I don't say it now, they took :
My backpack
camera memory cards (luckily all empties)
some money
my speaker for my music (RIP)
my towel
our iron
our ladder
E. Maradiagas camera
backpack
speaker
lotions
a cooler
and the best of all..... wait for it........ the breaker box!! (yes, I am trying to put any sensible reason behind that one and I still haven't found one...)

So that is the list, I think. Or at least what we have realized up to this moment.
I think I know what you are thinking right now, that has to be the most random list of things stolen from a house ever. And I couldn't agree more :) sooo yeah. We spent the rest of the night showing the police around the house, going to the police station, going back to the house, and then yet again to the police station. We finally got to bed at 1:30am. And very surprisingly, I slept like a rock. I was soooooo tired.

This week we also had to send two people off to their homes..... it was too bad, but I think that is why I was soo tired! But I am getting used to not sleeping! I think that will serve me very well in the future! ;)

Honestly other than that it was pretty uneventful.

We have a few investigators right now that are pretty positive! One of the more positive is named Victoria, like 30 years old. Elder Maradiaga and I were contacting one night, and we happened to talk to her sister, Andrea,  who had been receiving visits a lot in the past from sister missionaries with her boyfriend, so we put an appointment to come back. We kept trying to visit, but they were never home! Finally one day her sister, Victoria, answered the door, so we talked to her for a little bit, and she said that we could come back on a certain day and that Andrea and Jonathan would be home. So we came, and SURPRISE!! They weren't home! But Victoria was nice and decided to let us talk to her. She wasn't too positive to start, but as we taught, we explained how for this new year we are helping people start it off in the right path, and that we wanted to help her to get baptized! So she told us she would think about it. We came back for another visit this week and taught her about the plan of salvation and she really loved it, because she really didn't know if there was even life after this earth. It gave her a little more feeling of purpose in her life! She has a really hard time with her family because she lives with all of them, but she really isn't accepted too much, and they don't talk with her much. And as we were closing the lesson, out of nowhere, she told us that she wants to get baptized! So that was really exciting to hear! We assured her that we would be able to help prepare her to be baptized, and she agreed to take one of the first steps, to come to church on Sunday!

Another investigator is named Mariela, She has about 50 years. And she contacted us about a week back, and told us that she had been looking for the church for so long now!! She said that she was visiting in Chicago for a long time and talking with the missionaries. She said that she knows the church is true, and upon talking of baptism, she wants to be baptized as well! I don't really understand how she isn't already baptized from the missionaries in Chicago, because she really already knows everything there is to teach. She just asked us if we could review a lot of the things so that she is a little more fresh on the knowledge... haha So that is the goal with her.

And one other investigator that we have is Juan Jimenez! He is an old friend of the father of the President of the Branch, President Aristomane. And when we first visited him, we left him with a pamphlet of the restoration. We told him to read two pages out of it, just to get him started with the lesson material in his head before our next visit. When we came back for a lesson, he had read the entire thing, taken notes, and written down questions! That never happens here! It is hard enough to get them to read the assignment, let alone more and take notes and questions!! So he is super interested to look for the correct path in this new year!!

Overall things are really going great and I love being a missionary every second. Sometimes I am really trunky to get out of the office so that I can just work all day, but I know I'm here for a reason, so I am going to just do my best while I am here, and let that day come in its time!

I read a really awesome scripture today in Joshua 24:15.  "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

We need to choose this day whom we will serve. Not tomorrow! Today. We need to make sure that we are doing the right things and it we are not, we need to change that!!! As it says in Matthew 6:24:  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the  one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

We cannot serve two masters, so choose this day to serve God and Jesus Christ who are one in purpose!

I love you all! And Special shoutout to the Relief Society for the many letters I have received!! :D I love them!! (hint hint) haha
